Friday Night Tights

Skyland Roller Girls Present:

Friday Night Tights

What is it?

The Skyland Roller Girls are hosting an open “pickup game” night. Skaters from leagues around the area are invited to come and PLAY roller derby in a fun, friendly and casual atmosphere. The purpose of this night is first and foremost to provide a fun and friendly venue to just come out and play roller derby without all the work, formality and tension of a regularly scheduled bout. It is also our hope that this night will help the various leagues and Skaters to build great relationships that will in turn help to grow the sport of roller derby.

Where is it?

Excel Roller Skating Center on Route 57 in Hackettstown, N.J.

When is it?

Every Friday Night at 7:00 PM. Please arrive 15 minutes earlier to get geared up.

How will it work?

The night will start off with warm up skating and group stretching. Skaters will introduce themselves during stretching. Once stretching is complete, skaters will be divided into teams and then play some roller derby.

How will the teams be determined?

Skaters will be assigned to teams with skaters from other leagues as well as their own. There will be an attempt to keep teams as evenly matched as possible for maximum fun for eveyone. Teams may even be adjusted during the night at the hosts’ discretion or teams might be entirely reset between periods. Everyone will get to skate with and against everyone else at some point.

Will there be refs?

Yes, there will be refs, and they’re going to use WFTDA 4.0 rules.

Will they call penalties?

Yes. You will be sent to the box for majors and excessive minors at the refs’ discretion. Due to a lack of timekeepers, penalty trackers, etc., this will be more casual than a regular bout.

Are other skaters going to try and crush me?

While good blocking form and technique is encouraged, skaters should be running at 75-80% in regards to blocking power. Don’t try to put another skater into the third row like you might in a bout. Remember, the primary purpose of this night is fun. And if you break your toys, you can’t play with them anymore.

What do I need to bring?

All participants, including refs, must have all appropriate safety equipment, including mouth pieces, as defined by WFTDA 4.0. This will be checked during warmups and stretching. In addition, all participants should bring their USARs card and/or number. A computer will be on site to check as well if you forget.

Also, each participant is required to bring one white and one black shirt to play in.

What’s it Cost?

Each skater will be required to make a $5 Donation to help cover rink costs.
